In Vitro Fertilization Staff

Holly Hutchison, MS

Holly Hutchison, MS is Reproductive Health Center’s managing partner. It is Holly who knows this world from every side. She belongs to multiple professional associations and runs our entire IVF program. Holly graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in biology. She continued her education in the University’s Department of Genetics where she completed her Master’s degree. Holly worked as a clinical cytogeneticist at University Medical Center (UMC) and was involved in genetic research until she saw her first human egg. From that point on, she knew she had to work in the reproductive endocrinology and infertility field. She spent the next few years as a research specialist assisting the chief embryologist at UMC and ultimately persuaded her brother, Dr. Hutchinson, to form the Reproductive Health Center. We’re very thankful for her sisterly advice.

Dr. Jose Hernandez, PhD, Lab Director

Dr. Jose Hernandez, PhD, affectionately known as Dr. H, is a pioneer of in vitro fertilization. He began his career as a doctor of veterinary medicine and earned his degree from the Universidad Veracruzana in Vera Cruz, Mexico, while specializing in bovine reproductive physiology.

Dr. H’s storied career is vast. Upon his move to the United States, he received his Master of Science degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in reproductive endocrinology. He then received his PhD from Washington State University, training in in vitro fertilization, embryo and gamete micromanipulation, and cryopreservation of eggs and embryos. Following that, he earned a post-doctoral position at University of Missouri-Columbia focusing on producing massive quantities of bovine embryos in vitro for research and commercial applications.

Like Dr. Hutchison, Dr. Hernandez has a scientific résumé that rivals many. He’s double-board certified as a High Complexity Laboratory Director in Embryology and Andrology and a member of several scientific and professional associations. Dr. H. is also very skilled in many highly specialized reproductive techniques such as intracytoplasmic sperm injection, assisted hatching and embryo biopsy for pre-implantation genetic diagnosis.

Randi Weinstein, PhD

Randi Weinstein, PhD – Egg Donor and IVF Coordinator, earned her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at the State University of New York at Buffalo. She left the bitter cold of Buffalo and attended the University of California, Berkeley where she received her Ph.D. in Integrative Biology. Following several years of post-doctoral research at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Stanford University and the University of Arizona, Randi joined the faculty of the Department of Physiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. During her research career in the field of comparative biochemistry and physiology, Randi authored 17 peer-reviewed research papers, review articles and book chapters. She also received grant funding from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

Randi’s life and career took a major detour as a result of her personal experience with infertility. Prior to joining the Reproductive Health Center she had 2 1/2 years of infertility-related work experience as a consultant for a national egg donor agency and the leader of a local infertility support group. Randi also began teaching Reproductive Physiology at the University of Arizona, a role she continues to enjoy. Randi uses her personal and professional experience to assist with the coordination of IVF cases and egg donor cycles.
